Bakiga Lodge is part of Bakiga Community Project, NGO. As such, all profits of the lodge are used for the community development work of the project. We construct springs and community water tanks to assist rural communities to access water. To date we have helped over 170,000 people to access water.
From our beginnings, it was important for us to construct Bakiga Lodge and run it to be as eco friendly as possible.
We collect all our water from rain harvesting tanks at the lodge. This water is used for the client showers, flushing toilets, washing bedding and cleaning the lodge. We currently have 10 water harvesting tanks at the lodge. We encourage our guests to use the water we have carefully. All our power comes from solar panels on the roof of the lodge. We refuse to use generators – they pollute with fumes and noise. We collect and recycle all the plastic bottles used at the lodge. The steep grounds of the lodge have been terraced and planted to help avoid soil erosion.

The views are maddening and was glad to know my stay contributed to the community around. The manager Edwin is amazing with an amazing laugh and also took me and my guide around the community, shared history, context and was a lovely evening walk. The food here needs a separate review on its own. The pumpkin soup was mind blowing and I just can’t forget the warm pineapple jam dessert! When at Bwindi - stay here and thank me later!VerifiedLoy O2024-06-25Amazing sunsets!! I stayed at Bakiga Lodge the night before my gorilla trek. The setting is beautiful and overlooks a valley with incredible views. The sunset was amazing. The cottages were comfortable and while the night was chilly due to elevation, there were nice warm blankets provided. The staff was very friendly. Would certainly recommend.VerifiedLindsay Y2024-05-27Beautiful views close to the gorillas Bakiga lodge has an absolutely stunning view of sunrise and sunset over the mountains inside Bwindi. We were about a 5 minute drive from where the trek began so didn’t have to endure a long drive before a long hike. The staff were friendly and the food was very delicious. They even packed us a protein packed lunch to take for the trek! We also purchased some merchandise from the craftsmen’s shop right in the lodge!VerifiedRuth C2024-04-28A mountain retreat with friendly, helpful staff Wonderful staff and a very special location. This ecolodge is supporting conservation and community development whilst providing great accommodation. I have been treated like a guest of honour. Meals, drinks, and information have all been readily available. And they even filled by thermos so I could enjoy my book and a hot drink on my private terrace. I have slept so well listening to rain on the tin roof. It’s not fancy, but for me that is a plus. Would definitely recommend it, and no hesitation in staying here as a woman travelling alone.Verifiedraymond-lehideux-vernimmen.com2024-02-23Great ! Very nice community accommodation, very well maintained. Comfortable bungalows, individual terraces, Spectacular views from the bungalows, starting with their showers. Only lighting is lacking, particularly in the bathrooms.VerifiedVeronika2023-12-13Tranquil experience in the Bwindi forest national park A beautiful lodge with a good course. Not only this lodge offers great views, tranquility and peace, they are also purpose driven. They assist the community in obtaining water by setting up tanks. The staff if very helpful (please do ask for the village tour once you are there and see the wonderful work the lodge is doing in the community, it comes at no additional costs - the team is always happy to provide this).VerifiedMzzTops2023-11-13Peaceful, stunning views of blind forest close to mountain gorilla trekking area Bakiga Lodge is located in the small town of Ruhija - one of the entry points to the Bwindi Park to see the mountain gorillas. It is a wonderful setting on the hillside with stunning views over the forest and looking at the sunsets to the west. The rooms are spacious and can accommodate several people if needed. The meals were very good and cooked fresh daily. there is bottled water provided. coffee and tea are available all day long in the lodge eating area. They also are engaged in local community water conservation and the lodge works on solar power. Definitely a place i will go back to
